Welcome to Kawal Rock, a unique vineyard and distillery based in the beautiful Hunter Valley. We hand-craft bespoke spirits and wines made from local ingredients, and from our own 60 year old vines. Our vineyard is located at the base of the Rock which holds significance to the local Wonnarua people. Legend has it that the twin wedge-tailed eagles that live on the Rock and can often be seen circling the vineyard are ancient protectors of this land. The Wonnaruan name for the eagle is Ka-Wal, our namesake.
Kawal Rock is proudly women-owned and operated with our Cellar Door being a culmination of locally made, sourced and recycled materials. The walls of the cellar door have been lined with recycled wine barrel timber, our rustic bar and entry door made by talented local artisans, and sitting proudly in the centre is our handmade Tasmanian copper still. Our gin range is hand-made and wine based with each gin distilled with a mix of traditional and native botanicals. We are passionate about showcasing and celebrating all things Australian. Our uniquely charming Cellar Door also doubles as an events and performance space.
Owners Maria & Louise fell in love with the way the old European vines met the harsh Australian bushland, the Rock keeping guard over the vineyard and those never ending country skies. And at the very heart of it was a vision to create a destination to bring people together and celebrate all.
Kawal Rock Distillery has been a labour of love and we are beyond excited to finally share this patch of paradise with you all.
