The area has a long and proud history of grape growing dating back to the 1830’s. The first vineyards were planted by new settlers using cuttings from some of Europe’s finest vineyards, and the industry continues through to today qualifying the Hunter Valley as Australia’s oldest, continuous wine region.
Over recent decades, a new generation of grape growers and winemakers have introduced alternative grapes to grow alongside the cornerstone of traditional Hunter varieties, laying the foundations of innovative boutique winemaking and a future of dynamic wine tourism. Book a wine flight, join a masterclass or immerse yourself in the wine industry with a vineyard or winery tour.
